GUWAHATI: Thirteen more police personnel tested positive for Covid-19 in Assam over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of men in uniform in the state who contracted the virus to 44.
“Continuing to serve the people of Assam during Covid pandemic, 44 @assampolice personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 till June 28th 2020. 1127 personnel are under quarantine.They are all in high spirits. @DGPAssamPolice @CMOfficeAssam @himantabiswa,” GP Singh, the additional director general of police (law and order), Assam, said on Sunday evening.
Singh had in a late night tweet on Saturday said, “An SP rank officer of @assampolice and 30 other ranks have tested Covid positive. They are all in good health. We wish them an early and full recovery. We rededicate ourselves to the service of the people of Assam. @DGPAssamPolice @CMOfficeAssam @himantabiswa.”
Giving the district-wise breakup, Singh told TOI on Sunday, “Altogether, 24 policemen tested positive in Guwahati, one in Lakhimpur, two in Karimganj, two in Tezpur, and one in Dhubri.” Gupta said in addition, one commandant of battalion has also tested positive.
