18-year-old raped, murdered in Assam, 3 arrested

According to reports, police arrested three accused after they recovered body of an 18-year-old girl from a river in Assam. They suspect the girl was raped and murdered before her body was thrown.

Three people were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in a rape and murder case in Karimganj district of Assam.

The arrested persons were identified as Faizul Mia, Saddam Hussain and Ajmal Hussain.

According to reports, police arrested the accused after body of an 18-year-old girl was recovered from the Kakra river under Kaliganj police outpost.

Police suspected that the girl was first raped and then killed before her body was thrown into the river.

Following the incident, police started an investigation and arrested three persons on Friday for their alleged involvement in the case.

A police official said that the family members of the victim had lodged a missing complaint on January 3 and the body of the girl was recovered from the river on January 5.

“We have started an investigation and suspected that the girl was killed after being raped. Our police team has arrested three persons in connection with the incident. The arrested persons said that the girl died following an accident and revealed that they threw the body into the river. We have already seized a Tata Sumo vehicle bearing registration number MZ-06-1481,” the police officer said.

“The accused persons have confessed that they threw the body into the river. We are now waiting for the post-mortem report,” the police officer said.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Karimganj Sadar police station in connection with the incident.

After recovering the body, police had sent the body for post-mortem.
