Absconding engineer arrested in connection with GMC Scam

Another superintendent engineer of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Simantajyoti Baruah, who is an accused in the GMC de-siltation scam and was absconding, was arrested on Thursday by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell from Ananda Nagar near GMCH.

He was reportedly hiding in a relative’s house. With Simantajyoti Baruah’s arrest, the number of arrested persons in the GMC de-siltation scam has increased to 13. The arrests were made in connection with a case registered at the Vigilance Police Station (No 04 /2022 u/s 120(B)/420/406/409/468/471 IPC, r/w Section 13(1)(a)/13(2) of the PC Act, 1988).
