All is not well in Tea Industry: Congress accuses BJP
NN Bureau, February 29: Today the media cell of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee organized a press meet at Rajiv Bhawan. The reason for the press meet was to demand for a separate Ministry for Tea Industry. Since India is in second position for tea production. According to the report the tea industry of Assam is degraded. The quality of the tea is not maintained and it becomes the reason that in International market value of tea is decreased. They also put allegations that the BJP government in last five years had not given any importance to tea industry.
They also added that they are not in a position to compete with Kenya and Srilanka even they are the second largest producer in the world. They put many allegations such as there is no rules and regulation in terms of purchasing raw products, less than 50% tea leaves are being auctioned at present rest are still in stock. They also demanded for ban of 5years subsidy and closing of Bought leaf factories. There is lack of hygiene and cleanliness in the production house. At last they asked to maintain expenditure on trade fair, foreign trip and unnecessary seminars.
