Assam CID cracks Freezes Rs 20 lakh cybercrime in 24 hours

The CID of Assam Police, within 24 hours of receiving a complaint, has successfully traced and frozen Rs 20 lakh that was fraudulently taken from a person while admitting his son in an MBBS course at DY Patil Medical College in Pune.

Police said around 5pm on Thursday, a complaint was received at Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System 24×7 helpline no. 1930 of CID Assam from a victim of an online fraud of Rs 20 lakh.

“The fraudster looted the money in the name of giving his ward admission into MBBS in the DY Patil Medical College, Pune. On receipt of the complaint, the CID swung into action and contacted the concerned bank’s nodal officers over phone and email and alerted them to trace the amount,” the police said.

“During the course of the day, CID was able to trace and freeze Rs 20 lakh in the account of the fraudster. Due to the timely action of CID Assam, the fraudster was not able to misappropriate the money,” the police added. Saying necessary legal action is being now taken to refund the amount to the victim, the CID has appealed to people to stay alert.
