A troop of Assam Rifles was fired upon by militants from across the India-Myanmar border on Tuesday morning in the Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Assam Rifles troops were on enhanced patrolling duty in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations across India.

“It is immediately not known which insurgent groups were involved in the attack,” SP Gambo said.

As per sources, one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained a minor injury on his hand in the incident. The Assam Rifles said that the enhanced surveillance in the border areas will continue.
