Budget 2023-24 will directly benefit Assam Rs. 10,000 Crore: Assam CM

Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget 2023-24 will directly benefit Assam with an additional fund of Rs 10,000 crore, which would help the state government present an “encouraging” budget of its own next month.

Sarma said Sitharaman has “put the northeast in a new horizon” by allocating a whopping Rs 78,000 crore under untied funds for the region in her Budget proposals in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

“The Rs 78,000 crore allocation from tax devolution, which is over and above the central schemes, is way more than what the 15th Finance Commission had fixed. Out of this, 40% will be for Assam alone, which means that the Assam government will directly benefit and will be richer by Rs 10,000 crore,” Sarma said.
