Hitesh Basumatary, a former Assam MLA, arrested for having illegal weapons

Assam police arrested a former MLA in Assam’s Baksa district Hitesh Basumatary for possession of illegal weapons.

Basumatary, was former Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA from Mushalpur constituency. Two other persons were also arrested along with him.

A senior police officer, who did not want to be named, said, “Police seized one AK series rifle with over 130 rounds and one M-16 rifle with around 10 live rounds. We are looking if these were meant to form a new militant outfit.”
