Indo-Bangla mutually agreed to reopen Kalaichar border haat from November 30, 2022

A meeting of the Indo-Bangla Joint Border Haat Management Committee was held between Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district deputy commissioner Gideon Kharmawphlang and district magistrate of Kurigram, Bangladesh, Mohammed Rezaul Karim, on Tuesday on Kalaichar border haat premises to reopen the market which has remained closed for two years now because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The discussions were conducted in the presence of various officials of the South West Garo Hills district administration, which included superintendent of police Steve Rynjah, additional deputy commissioners, various officials of the Bangladesh government, customs officers and also haat committee members.

“Both the parties mutually agreed to reopen Kalaichar border haat from November 30, 2022, which will function twice a week, Monday and Wednesday,” an official said.
