R-Day blasts: Two ULFA(I) militants arrested, arms seized in Assam

They are suspected to be involved in the bomb blast at Teokghat in Charaideo district on January 26.


Security personnel recovered one 5.56 mm HK33 rifle with two magazines, 34 rounds live ammunition and other items in possession from them.

The Indian Army and Assam Police had arrested two hardcore militants of banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independence) or ULFA(I) in the state’s Charaideo district.

They are suspected to be involved in the bomb blast at Teokghat in Charaideo district on January 26.

According to the Assam police, the Assam Police and troops of the Indian Army had arrested the militants on January 28.

The arrested militants were identified as Manas Jyoti Padmavat alias Bastav Asom and Chow Lakhi Longno alias Rubul Asom.

Security personnel recovered one 5.56 mm HK33 rifle with two magazines, 34 rounds live ammunition and other items in possession from them.

A top police official said that Manas Padmavat had joined the outfit group in 2010 and Lakhi Longno joined in 2017.

Paresh Baruah-led ULFA(I) had claimed responsibility for five blasts in different places of the state on January 26.
