Rainfall spell hits Shillong; all schools to remain closed today

An unwelcomed spell of incessant rainfall hit Shillong on Monday just when Diwali festivities were supposed to take off, thereby leaving the city in a morose state.

Owing to the rainfall which is likely to continue, East Khasi Hills district administration has directed all schools in the district to remain closed on Tuesday.

In an order issued late Monday, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner said, “In view of the prevailing weather conditions due to cyclonic storm ‘SITRANG’ and as per IMD weather forecast showing continued intense rainfall in the next 24 hours or so, all schools in East Khasi Hills district are directed to remain closed on October 25.”
