34 Youths Escape Biswanath De-Addiction Centre Amid Abuse Allegations

A total of 34 youths escaped from the Live Well De-addiction Centre in Biswanath on Friday, alleging physical and mental abuse at the facility. The incident occurred a day after videos showing alleged mistreatment of inmates at rehabilitation centres in the district went viral.

Several of the escaped youths have been traced and rescued, while others are still missing. The inmates claimed they faced torture, inadequate food, and lack of medicines. Following public outrage, police arrested Raja Shah, associated with the centre, while co-owner Munna Hazarika remains absconding.

An FIR has been lodged by the Social Welfare Department, and Biswanath Police have launched a detailed investigation into the functioning of the rehabilitation centre.
