Assam Launches Real-Time Deforestation Monitoring and Green Initiatives

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a new AI-powered portal to detect deforestation in real time. Citizens can also upload tree plantation updates. He urged people to plant trees in honor of their mothers.

On World Environment Day, Sarma handed over arms to the Forest Protection Battalion and flagged off 130 vehicles for forest divisions. He confirmed the ban on 500 ml plastic bottles remains, while 1-litre bottles are exempt for now. Assam will partner with OIL to produce biofuel from plastic waste in five cities.
