Caste Census to Benefit Assam’s Indigenous Muslims: CM Sarma

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the 2027 caste census will help Assam’s indigenous Muslim communities, such as Goria, Moria, Deshi, Syed, Jolha, Kiren, and Maimal, assert their unique identities. He said the move fulfills their long-standing demand for distinct socio-cultural recognition, separate from migrant-origin Muslim groups. Assam has already begun preparatory steps for this enumeration.
