Eviction Drive Planned in Sribhumi and Barak Valley: Assam Minister

Assam PWD Minister Krishnendu Paul announced a fresh eviction drive targeting illegal settlements in Sribhumi and Barak Valley. He claimed encroachments, especially in reserve forests like Pataria and Dohaliya, were deliberate attempts to alter the region’s demographics. The crackdown is part of the state’s ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, which has reclaimed over 1.19 lakh bighas of land since 2021.
