Bill Introduced to Establish IIM Guwahati as Institution of National Importance

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan introduced the IIM (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in Lok Sabha to include IIM Guwahati in the schedule of the IIM Act, granting it national importance. The move is part of a Special Development Package under a Memorandum of Settlement signed between the Centre, Assam government, and ULFA. Assam, despite its large student population, lacks an IIM. The new institute aims to boost education, development, and managerial opportunities in the Northeast.
