Singer Zubeen Garg Dies in Singapore After Scuba Diving Accident

Guwahati, Sept 19: Popular Assamese singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg passed away on Thursday in Singapore following a scuba diving accident. He was 52.
The singer had travelled to Singapore to perform at the 4th North East India Festival. He reportedly experienced breathing difficulties during a dive, was rushed to Singapore General Hospital, and was declared dead around 2:30 PM IST.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mourned the loss, calling Zubeen “one of Assam’s favourite sons” and said his music had an “unmatched ability to energise people.”
Best known nationally for the Bollywood hit Ya Ali (2006), Zubeen’s contributions to Assamese music and culture made him a beloved figure across generations. His death has left a void that fans and admirers say will never be filled.
