Tezpur University Crisis and ST Status Demand Raised in Rajya Sabha

Tezpur University’s ongoing administrative crisis and the demand for Scheduled Tribe status for six Assam communities were raised in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Independent MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan said the university was facing a severe administrative breakdown, accusing the Vice Chancellor of being absent for over two months. He urged the Union Education Ministry to intervene.

AGP MP Birendra Prasad Baishya then pressed for ST status for six indigenous communities, calling the demand historically justified.

The discussions took place amid repeated disruptions as the Opposition demanded a debate on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
