Assam Primary Teachers to Renew Agitation Over Withdrawn Grade Pay

The Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association will resume its protest on December 17, demanding restoration of the withdrawn Rs 8,700 grade pay. Memorandums will be submitted across 51 subdivisions, giving the government one month to resolve the issue.

The association said its detailed memorandum submitted in October has seen no progress, despite being forwarded to the Education and Finance Departments. Leaders rejected the Education Minister’s claim that the matter would be handled under the Eighth Pay Commission, calling it misleading.

They reiterated that teachers had drawn the Rs 8,700 grade pay for 17 months before it was cut to Rs 7,400 following a complaint and arbitration.
