Seven Rohingya Detained Near India–Bangladesh Border in Cachar

Seven persons from Myanmar’s Rohingya community were detained at Hilara Railway Station in Cachar district while allegedly attempting to cross into Bangladesh illegally. The group, comprising one man, three women and three children, had reportedly travelled from Hyderabad via Guwahati and used Hilara as a transit point near the international border.
Police said local residents alerted authorities after noticing suspicious movements. During preliminary questioning, the detainees allegedly admitted to entering India illegally years ago and later moving to Hyderabad for work, before deciding to return to Bangladesh amid a recent crackdown.
Further investigation is underway to identify facilitators involved. Cachar, due to its proximity to the border, has seen similar incidents in the past involving suspected Rohingya migrants.
