Amit Shah Hails CRPF Sacrifices for Peace in Northeast at Guwahati Parade

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday paid tribute to CRPF personnel who laid down their lives in the Northeast, saying their sacrifices were crucial in restoring peace and stability in Assam and the region. Speaking at the 87th CRPF Raising Day parade in Guwahati, Shah said the Northeast, once plagued by violence, bandhs and insurgency, has seen major improvement over the past decade.
He noted that nearly 700 CRPF jawans have sacrificed their lives in the Northeast, including 79 in Assam alone. Shah said the improved security situation has enabled development, connectivity and investment, aided by peace accords and sustained security efforts.
During the event, CRPF contingents including RAF, women and CoBRA units participated in the parade. Several personnel and battalions were honoured for gallantry and distinguished service. Shah also highlighted the CRPF’s growth from two battalions in 1939 to 248 battalions today and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to lasting peace in the Northeast.
