Direct Freight Train Links Kolkata Port to Nepal Under New Transit Protocol

Guwahati, July 28: The first direct commercial container freight train from Kolkata Port to Biratnagar Customs Yard in Nepal has successfully completed its journey under the revised India–Nepal Rail Transit Protocol.
The 40-wagon train carried a consignment of canola, enabling seamless cross-border rail transport without transshipment at the border. According to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the new service is expected to improve trade efficiency, reduce logistics costs and strengthen economic and rail connectivity between India and Nepal.
