Centre Approves Guwahati Airport as Export Point for Agarwood Products
Guwahati: The Central Government has approved Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati as an export point for agarwood chips and agarwood oil. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced the decision on Saturday, stating that the approval followed a request from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The move is expected to benefit farmers, producers and exporters by improving access to international markets.
The decision comes after Assam exported 123 kg of agarwood chips to Dubai in October. Assam accounts for approximately 81% of India’s agarwood resources, with the industry supporting over 50,000 farmers and workers. The new export facility is expected to strengthen the state’s agarwood trade and boost export opportunities across the Northeast.
