AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal Slams Assam Government Over Rising Prices and Proposed Power Tariff Hike

Guwahati: AIUDF president and Binnakandi MLA Badruddin Ajmal on Thursday criticised the Assam Government over the rising prices of essential commodities, alleging its failure to control market rates. He claimed that vegetables sold for ₹10–12 per kg in Kharupetia were being priced at ₹50–60 per kg in Guwahati, while a tray of 30 eggs had reportedly reached ₹240. Ajmal accused middlemen of exploiting consumers while farmers continued to receive inadequate returns.

Ajmal also opposed the proposed electricity tariff hike, claiming that Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) had received approval to collect approximately ₹160 crore from consumers between November 2026 and March 2027. He urged the government to intervene in the market, regulate prices, curb alleged exploitation by middlemen and withdraw the proposed tariff increase to ease the financial burden on households.
