Assam Forest Department Restricts Drone Operations Near Amur Falcon Roosting Sites

Guwahati: The Assam Forest Department has prohibited unauthorised drone operations, photography and videography around identified Amur falcon roosting sites to protect the migratory birds from disturbance. The restrictions follow the reported arrival of over one lakh Amur falcons in Assam, particularly at Umrangso in Dima Hasao and Dharamtul in Morigaon. In an order issued on November 6, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Dr. Vinay Gupta directed officials to strengthen protection measures at these locations.
Divisional Forest Officers have been instructed to identify sensitive roosting areas, coordinate with district administrations and police, and establish temporary no-drone zones wherever necessary. Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have urged public cooperation in protecting the birds during their annual migration. The restrictions will remain effective throughout the falcons’ seasonal presence or until further orders.
