Assam Issues New Solid Waste Management Rules Across State

The Assam government has issued new directions for strict implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 across the state.
Under the guidelines, District Commissioners will conduct regular audits and reviews, while all local bodies must ensure 100 per cent compliance with waste management rules, including four-way waste segregation.
The government has also ordered scientific disposal of legacy waste, appointment of nodal officers, mandatory monthly reporting, and registration of bulk waste generators. Several departments, including education and pollution control authorities, have been assigned roles to improve waste management and public awareness.
