Assam Joint Secretary Suspended After Arrest in Alleged AFDC Fund Misappropriation Case

Assam government officer Naren Chandra Basumatary, ACS, Joint Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, has been suspended following his arrest in an alleged financial irregularities and fund misappropriation case.

The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption arrested Basumatary on May 26 in connection with alleged irregularities during his tenure as Managing Director of the Assam Fishery Development Corporation (AFDC) between 2019 and 2021. He was later remanded to police custody for six days.

The state government placed him under suspension with immediate effect from the date of his arrest, pending further orders.
