Assam Tops Northeast Borrowings with ₹10,204 Crore in FY 2025-26

The eight Northeastern states collectively borrowed ₹19,563 crore from the open market during the first three quarters of FY 2025-26, with Assam accounting for the largest share at ₹10,204 crore.
Other states borrowed smaller amounts, including Meghalaya (₹2,634 crore), Manipur (₹1,650 crore), Sikkim (₹1,500 crore), and Tripura (₹1,300 crore). Arunachal Pradesh recorded the lowest borrowing among all Indian states at ₹575 crore.
