Congress Alleges Bias in Police Conduct Amid Clashes in Samaguri Assembly By-Poll

Following violent clashes in the Samaguri assembly constituency, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) accused Nagaon Superintendent of Police Swapnaneel Deka and other officials of bias toward the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The APCC submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), demanding the transfer of these officials to ensure a fair election.

The APCC delegation, led by MLA Jakir Hussain, criticized the police for their inaction after a clash on Tuesday between Congress and BJP workers, which resulted in injuries, including that of Batadraba MLA Sibamoni Bora. They reported that about 40 to 50 individuals attacked Congress vehicles. The party urged prompt action against the perpetrators, emphasizing that the current situation encourages further violence against Congress members. Tensions remain high in the area, despite police intervention.
