Student Attendance in Assam Government Schools Drops to 51.66%

Student attendance in government and provincialised schools across Assam remains a concern, with only 51.66% of enrolled students attending classes on June 3, 2026. Out of 47.46 lakh enrolled students, only 24.52 lakh were present.

Dhubri recorded the lowest attendance at 41.15%, while Dibrugarh topped the list with 71.55%. Several districts, including Barpeta, Goalpara, Nagaon and Morigaon, reported attendance below 50%.

The Education Department has directed officials to closely monitor attendance and ensure schools achieve the minimum 80% target. Authorities warned that negligence in implementing attendance measures could invite action against responsible officials.
