₹8 Crore Infrastructure Boost for Agomoni Higher Secondary School in Dhubri
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu highlights development of the historic institution established in 1948, currently serving 1,851 students.
Guwahati, November 1, 2026: Nearly eight decades after its establishment, Agomoni Higher Secondary School in Assam’s Dhubri district is drawing renewed attention with an infrastructure development initiative worth ₹8 crore, aimed at strengthening one of the region’s long-serving educational institutions.
Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu highlighted the development of the school, which has played an important role in providing education to generations of students in the Agomoni area since 1948.
The institution, functioning under the Agomoni education block, currently has 1,851 students enrolled from Classes VI to XII.
Major Investment in School Infrastructure
The ₹8 crore development initiative represents a significant investment in Agomoni Higher Secondary School’s infrastructure.
With a large student population and a history spanning 78 years, the institution remains an important part of the educational network in western Assam.
The infrastructure investment is expected to support the school’s capacity to provide a better learning environment and meet its educational requirements.
However, the detailed scope of construction, specific facilities covered under the project and completion timeline were not specified in the announcement.
From a School Established in 1948 to a Prominent Educational Institution
Agomoni Higher Secondary School began its journey in 1948, with Zainal Abedin Sarkar serving as its founding principal.
The institution gradually expanded its educational activities and established itself as an important centre of learning in Dhubri district.
Its development reached a significant milestone in 1977 when the school was provincialised.
A year later, in 1978, it was upgraded to the higher secondary level, allowing students to pursue education up to Class XII.
These developments helped the institution expand its academic reach and meet the educational needs of the surrounding communities.
Today, the school continues to build upon the foundation laid by its early administrators and teachers.
Agomoni Higher Secondary School Serves 1,851 Students
Spread across 15 bighas of land, the school accommodates students from the upper primary to the higher secondary stage.
According to the institutional details highlighted by the Education Minister, Agomoni Higher Secondary School has 31 teaching staff members and six non-teaching employees.
Principal Pranay Kumar Chakraborty currently heads the institution, overseeing its academic and administrative activities.
The school caters to 1,851 students, reflecting its continuing importance in the educational landscape of the Agomoni region.
The sizeable enrolment also underlines the need for adequate classrooms, academic resources and supporting infrastructure to sustain educational activities.
Ranoj Pegu Emphasises Quality Education and Academic Excellence
Dr Ranoj Pegu expressed his hope that the historic institution would continue progressing academically and contribute to the development of human resources in the region.
The Education Minister highlighted the school’s long-standing educational legacy while drawing attention to its infrastructure development.
His remarks placed emphasis on the importance of maintaining educational standards and enabling established institutions to meet the changing needs of students.
The development of Agomoni Higher Secondary School also reflects the broader importance of strengthening public educational institutions across Assam.
A New Chapter for the Historic Dhubri Institution
From its establishment in 1948 to its present role as a higher secondary institution serving more than 1,800 students, Agomoni Higher Secondary School has witnessed several decades of educational growth.
The ₹8 crore infrastructure initiative marks another stage in that journey.
As the institution approaches eight decades of service, attention will now turn to the implementation of the development works and the improvements they bring to the campus.
The investment is expected to support the school’s continued role in providing educational opportunities and contributing to the academic development of students in Dhubri district.
