₹50 Crore Grant Announced to Restore Koch Dynasty Heritage in Darrang

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a ₹50 crore grant to preserve and develop the heritage of the Darrang kings, aiming to promote the Koch dynasty’s legacy as a major tourism centre. The announcement was made during the 516th Biswa Mahabir Chilarai Divas celebrations in Darrang.

The Chief Minister directed immediate restoration work and unveiled a 37-foot statue of Maharaj Krishnanarayan, besides inaugurating Chilarai Bhawans at Mangaldoi and Golaghat. Paying tribute to Mahabir Chilarai, he highlighted the Koch dynasty’s military, cultural, and spiritual contributions to Assam. Sarma also announced land allotment and an office for the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani, reaffirming the government’s commitment to preserving Assam’s historical heritage.
