₹97 Crore Seized in Assam as Poll Surveillance Intensifies

The Election Commission of India reported that materials worth ₹97 crore have been seized in Assam ahead of the Assembly elections. This includes ₹4 crore in cash, ₹20 crore in liquor, ₹56 crore in drugs, ₹4 crore in precious metals, and ₹13 crore in other items.
The crackdown follows the activation of the Electronic Seizure Management System (ESMS), with Assam among key poll-bound states witnessing heightened surveillance. Nationwide, seizures have crossed ₹650 crore across multiple states.
To ensure free and fair elections, thousands of flying squads and surveillance teams have been deployed. Over 5,173 flying squads are responding rapidly to complaints, while more than 5,200 static teams are conducting checks and surprise inspections.
The Commission has also held review meetings with top officials to strengthen coordination and enforcement in poll-bound regions.
