22 Fake Doctors Arrested in Assam: Anti-Quackery Cell Exposes Widespread Scam

At least 22 fake doctors have been arrested in Assam since the creation of the Anti-Quackery & Vigilance Cell this year. According to Dr. Abhijit Neog, 11% of deaths in Assam involve patients treated by quacks. Most fake practitioners operate in rural, semi-urban, and tea garden areas with poor healthcare access.
Dr. Neog highlighted weak enforcement of the Clinical Establishments Act and cited cases where fake doctors even ran multi-specialty clinics or performed surgeries. Some were found working in private hospitals and government-linked schemes.
He warned that the issue is far more widespread, urging stronger laws and public awareness to curb the menace.
