28 Foreign Nationals Relocated to Matia Transit Camp Amid Protests
On Monday, 28 foreign nationals, including nine women, were relocated to the Matia transit camp from Barpeta district under heavy security. The transfer, carried out by Barpeta Police, followed a Foreigners’ Tribunal declaration identifying them as foreign nationals. The move sparked protests outside the Barpeta SP’s office, with family members urging the government to expedite the NRC process. The Matia transit camp, initially a detention center, now serves as a more humane facility for declared foreigners.
