300 cases of dengue reported in Assam

Assam is witnessing a surge in dengue cases early this year, with more than 300 cases of the vector-borne disease reported so far. In the meanwhile, two Japanese Encephalitis (JE) deaths have also been reported, state health department sources said.

The two JE deaths have been reported from Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts. The recent JE death was that of a three-year-old child from Lakhimpur, who was also suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. So far, 42 JE cases have been confirmed this season.
