5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Morigaon, No Damage Reported

An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 struck Morigaon district early Monday at 4.17 a.m., according to the National Centre for Seismology. The epicentre was located at a depth of 50 km. No injuries or property damage were reported, though tremors were felt across central Assam and nearby areas.

Officials noted that Assam and the Northeast lie in a high seismic risk zone due to tectonic activity, with cities like Guwahati remaining vulnerable. Experts reiterated the need for earthquake-resilient infrastructure and strong disaster preparedness.
