Protesters Block National Highway Over Alleged Harassment of Brick-laden Trucks at Assam-West Bengal Border

A significant number of protesters, including brick factory owners and truck drivers, staged a blockade on the National Highway at Sagolia, demanding the removal of restrictions imposed by the West Bengal police on trucks carrying bricks from Assam. The demonstrators accused the West Bengal police of hindering the entry of trucks despite having necessary documents, including GST, alleging harassment under the pretext of checking and entry procedures. The protesters claimed that vehicles carrying bricks had been subjected to violence, and they had to pay a monthly allowance to the police for entry into West Bengal. They urged the Assam government to intervene, ensuring the smooth movement of brick trucks across the border. The protest caused inconvenience to commuters and disrupted traffic flow.
