Gauhati High Court Has Over 17,500 Cases Pending for More Than Five Years

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court had 17,525 cases pending for more than five years at its principal seat as of July 31, 2026. The principal seat had a total pendency of 48,728 cases, including 35,642 civil and 13,086 criminal matters.

The court’s outlying benches had another 228 cases pending for five years, with 46 at Kohima, 44 at Aizawl and 138 at Itanagar. Overall, the principal seat and three outlying benches together had 52,193 pending cases, comprising 38,242 civil and 13,951 criminal cases.
