Assam CM Reacts Strongly to YouTuber’s Arrest Over Controversial Bihu Songs

The arrest of YouTuber and singer Altaf Hossain, known for his controversial version of Bihu songs, has sparked a strong response from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. During a live social media session, Sarma emphasized the need to adhere to Assamese societal norms and preserve the region’s cultural dignity.

Sarma stressed that while society must adapt to change, core traditions should be respected. He cited the example of altering Bihu into “Miya Bihu,” stating it would not be accepted by the Assamese community.

Hossain was detained by Dhubri police following controversy over his performances, which some viewed as provocative and potentially harmful to social harmony. The incident has ignited a broader discussion on cultural expression and its boundaries in Assam.
