Manipur Bans Production and Sale of Tobacco Products for One Year
The Manipur Government has banned the production, storage, distribution, and sale of tobacco products for one year, effective immediately. The ban includes Gutkha, Pan Masala with tobacco or nicotine, and other chewing tobacco products like Khaini and Scented Tobacco.
This action, taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, aims to protect public health. The order also prohibits selling tobacco and nicotine-containing products in separate packs for mixing by consumers, aligning with a 2016 Supreme Court ruling.
