Congress Names Jayanta Bora as Behali By-Election Candidate Amid Opposition Rift

The Assam Congress has nominated Jayanta Bora, a former BJP member, as its candidate for the Behali by-elections. This decision has sparked a rift within the United Opposition Forum, leading to Bhupen Borah’s resignation as the forum’s president. The opposition’s disagreement over the Behali candidate caused a standstill, with 15 parties unable to reach a consensus. Assam will hold by-elections in five constituencies, including Behali, following the recent Lok Sabha elections.
