Ajit Kumar Bhuyan Named President of ASOM After Congress Exit

Following Assam Congress Chief Bhupen Kumar Borah’s resignation, ASOM has appointed Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan as its new president. Lurinjyoti Gogoi, ASOM’s general secretary, confirmed the decision, adding that Jones Ingti Kathar and Suprakash Talukdar were named working presidents. Despite Congress exiting the alliance, Gogoi stated that ASOM remains determined to challenge the BJP in upcoming elections. Congress was accused of betraying the alliance by fielding a candidate in the Behali constituency, which was reserved for ASOM’s CPI (ML) ally.
