PWD Considers Alternative Flyover Plan to Save Dighalipukhuri Trees
The Public Works Department (PWD) is exploring alternatives for the under-construction GNB Road flyover to preserve the greenery around Dighalipukhuri. The plan includes landing the flyover near Khao Gali or Guwahati Railway Station roundabout.
The proposal emerged during a PWD meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, following Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s directive to avoid damaging the historic trees. Sarma stated on social media that he has asked the department to prepare a draft traffic flow plan that ensures the flyover does not harm the area’s heritage trees.
Protesters, however, continue to demand immediate action to protect the site.
