Moran-Motok Community Protests for Tribal Status in Tinsukia

A massive protest erupted in Tinsukia on Saturday, led by the Moran Students’ Union and All Assam Motok Youth Students’ Federation, demanding tribal status for the Moran-Motok community. The protest followed Union Minister Jual Oram’s recent remarks about the government’s inaction on recognizing six Assam communities as Scheduled Tribes.

Protesters burned effigies of Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister Sarma, and Oram, expressing anger over the government’s delay. Clashes with security forces occurred, though no injuries were reported. The demand for ST status remains unresolved, despite previous assurances and ongoing protests.
