Dighalipukhuri-Noonmati Flyover: Modified Design to Protect Heritage
The Assam government has modified the design of the Dighalipukhuri-Noonmati flyover to protect the heritage trees and banks of Dighalipukhuri. The new alignment will have one side starting from Lamb Road and the other near Rabindra Bhawan on GNB Road.
A previous plan faced public protests over the potential harm to trees near Handique Girls’ College, leading to a PIL in the Gauhati High Court. The government is now surveying the modified design, which is yet to be finalized, and has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the city’s heritage while advancing infrastructure development.
