Meghalaya Police Detains Overloaded Bhutanese Trucks

Meghalaya Police detained 15 Bhutanese trucks near Rongsai in West Garo Hills for overloading while exporting boulders to Bangladesh. Despite warnings, these trucks often exceeded weight limits, damaging roads and infrastructure.

A recent bridge collapse near Hallidayganj highlighted the issue, leading to stricter enforcement by authorities. The West Garo Hills SP, Abraham T Sangma, mandated adherence to weight limits and allowed only 3-axle trucks for exports.

Residents demand stricter traffic law enforcement to safeguard roads and prevent illegal practices like bribery at checkpoints. Authorities pledged continued monitoring to prevent future violations.
