Arunachal CM: Freedom of Religion Act Rules Not Targeting Any Religious Group
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu clarified that the new rules under the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA), 1978, aim to protect indigenous faiths and cultures, not target any religious group. Speaking at the Statehood Day celebrations, Khandu said the rules were implemented following a high court order to address the lack of formal regulations under the 46-year-old Act.
He appointed Home Minister Mama Natung to engage with concerned groups, including the Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF), which opposes the Act as “unconstitutional.”
Khandu also highlighted his government’s achievements, including plans to generate Rs 10,000 crores annually from power projects and promoting tourism through new policies and circuits in the state.
