Muga Silkworm Deaths in Dhakuakhana Cause Heavy Losses to Farmers

Thousands of Muga silkworms are dying in Dhakuakhana, causing severe losses to farmers. Over 80,000 worms died in a State sericulture project alone, valued at ₹5 lakh. Expert Jitul Saikia blamed bacterial and viral infections, worsened by chemical use and climate change. He criticized the State sericulture department and Central Silk Board for poor management and ineffective interventions.
