Assam Targets 30 Medical Colleges by 2030, Eyes Tech-Driven Healthcare

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Assam’s plan to establish 30 medical colleges by 2030, up from the current 13, aiming to produce 4,000 doctors annually. At an event in GMCH, he emphasized a shift towards tech-integrated healthcare, with AI, robotics, telemedicine, and digital OPDs expected to replace traditional systems. He cited improved maternal mortality rates and proposed 100-bedded hospitals in every constituency. Sarma also highlighted upcoming colleges in Pragjyotish and Bongaigaon, stressing government institutions will remain the priority over private ones.
